Music, as we conceive it, expresses that dimension of human emotions which cannot be articulated in words. Jazz is like a giant octopus that dwells in deep waters: everyone knows about its big and robust head, but few people have seen its abundant and magnificent tentacles. We are interested in exploring the most sinuous endings of the slender tentacles that stem from the great Jazz octopus: their role is to contain and develop all the emotion and rage, the howling and crying that constitutes the origin of Jazz.
Starting from original compositions, improvisations and a version of the great saxophonist Thomas Chapin, who died tragically at the age of 40 in 1998, all the musical arrangements on this album are based on the notion of freedom, which is the core principle of Jazz.
This album is a tribute to Jazz, understood as a music style that is on a permanent quest to express feelings and emotions in the present moment, in a spontaneous, unmediated, free and personal way. We consider ourselves the heirs to musicians like Thomas Chapin, Ornette Coleman, Roscoe Mitchell and Evan Parker, among others.
